Infant Protection and Patient Tracking Systems
One of the most specialized areas of healthcare security is Infant Abduction Prevention. These systems use active Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, often called "Hugs" tags, attached to the infant’s ankle.
Perimeter Lockdown: If a tagged infant is moved near a monitored exit or elevator without authorized clearance, the system automatically locks the doors and sounds an alarm.
Mother-Baby Matching: Electronic matching systems ensure that the correct infant is paired with the correct guardian, alerting staff if a mismatch occurs.
Wander Management: Similar technology is deployed in memory care units for patients with dementia, providing them with freedom of movement within a safe "geofenced" zone while preventing them from exiting the facility unaccompanied.
